- In that it can strip the outside fiber jacket from the interior buffer coating and 250 micron.
How to Correctly Use a Mechanical Stripper- Protect Yourself: Always wear safety glasses; microscopic glass fiber shards can easily shatter and jump into your eyes.
- Strip the Outer Jacket: Place the cable into the largest groove of the tool, apply light pressure to score the casing, and smoothly pull the jacket off.
- Trim any Strength Members: Use specialized aramid or Kevlar shears to cut away any yellow structural yarn inside the jacket.
- Nibble the Buffer: Place the fiber into the middle hole to remove the 900-micron tight buffer. Always strip this layer off in small, quarter-inch “nibbles” rather than one long pull, which can bend and snap the inner glass.
- Expose the Glass: Use the smallest notch at a slight 45-degree angle to slide off the remaining 250-micron inner coating.
- Clean Immediately: Wipe the bare glass with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free wipe to clear off debris before using a fiber cleaver.
